Skinning is a fantastic gathering profession which can be used to make money, and is easy to gather leather while leveling your toons.
It goes really well with Mining as a second gathering profession. With both of these you should be able to make plenty of gold until you reach end game level.
What Advantages Are There from Leveling Skinning?
Since the release of Wrath of the Lich King there are additional advantages from leveling up professions, especially gathering professions. With Skinning you get:
- 'Master of Anatomy' which increases your Critical Strike chance.
- Leather, which can be sold for Gold or used to make things mainly in Leather Working.
- Gives you something extra to do when your bored (and can be sold for Gold)
Where Do I Start?
Well, like all professions and skills in WoW, you need to learn this from a Skinning Trainer. You will start off as an Apprentice, then work your way up through the ranks to Grand Master.
You can find a full list of skinning trainers on my full guide at http://www.worldwarcraftguide.com/world-of-warcraft-guides/wow-comprehensive-skinning-guide-1-450
You will also require a Skinning Knife. This does not need to be equiped to skin the beasts, but it does need to be in your Bags.
Which Areas Can I Start Skinning In?
Basically, the 1st trainer you find, normally has skinnable mobs around this area. As the mob levels get higher, so does the minimum requirement to skin the mob. Also, depending on the race and faction you are, will change where you will start your skinning career.
Here is a list of suggested leveling areas, from 1-150, you can find the complete list of suggested skinning areas, all the way upto 450 on my website at http://www.worldwarcraftguide.com/
